GLORY IN THEIR SHAME (Part 4: Abortion)

Forty-eight years have passed since Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton. In these court cases, the Supreme Court struck down all laws of any kind, State, Federal, or Local, that protected the lives of unborn human children. No matter on what side of this issue a person may stand, no one can say that this discussion hasn’t had a huge impact in American society. Since 1973, over 60 million infants have been aborted according to the data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (approximately 1.4 million lives per year).

Those numbers stagger the imagination; let’s put the numbers into perspective. Abortion has resulted in more deaths in one month than there were Americans killed in the entire Vietnam War. The population of Gahanna, Ohio would have been wiped out every 2 days. The entire state of Maine (1.25 million) or Hawaii (1.3 million) would have been wiped out every year. The total deaths since Roe v Wade equals the combined population of 26 states! (Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming, Georgia, Indiana, and Arizona).

America boasts of their right to kill unborn children. Citizens proclaim, “My body, my choice!” and argue that an unborn child is not human and therefore, unworthy of human rights. Millions of Americans take glory in the murder of innocent infants in their mother’s womb.

Even without the Bible, one can argue against the claim that an unborn child is not human and thusly has no right to life. First, if something is growing it implies life. Something that is dead or without life does not grow and develop. A ‘fetus’ in a womb grows, therefore it has life. What kind of life is it? That which grows from the result of copulation of a man and woman can only be human. A growing human SHOULD HAVE human rights, just like all other humans. Just because a human exists at an earlier stage of development does mean that it has less of a right to live than a more developed human. Does a 5-year-old toddler have less of a right to live than a 40-year-old man? No!!! All human beings have the same rights to live, no matter race, gender, nationality, or AGE!

Many people stand on the emotional argument that a woman should have the right to choose if she wants to be a human incubator. If a woman does not want her body to house a growing human child, then such a woman should abstain from that which causes the conception of human life! Naturally, not all women have been given the right over their bodies and given the right to choose intercourse. Some women conceive a child from sexual abuse. Just because someone has abused a person and done terrible things to that person, doesn’t give the victim the right to turn around and do terrible things to something purely good and innocent. Numerous times in Scripture, God demands that His followers recompense evil with good (Prov. 20:22; Rom. 12:17; Heb. 10:30). Repaying evil with more evil only serves to make the world a more dangerous and bitter place. Furthermore, if a woman feels so traumatized or angry by the situation that she cannot bear to look at this child, it would be better to give up the child for adoption or ask her family for help than just kill the child, so she doesn’t have to deal with memory of what happened. Two wrongs will not make a right.

As mentioned previously, the abortionists would have us believe that which grows within a woman’s womb during pregnancy is not a child or baby, but something less than human, unworthy of the rights of life. What does God say to this idea? In Luke 1:41, God calls the leaping in the womb of Elizabeth, the sister of Mary, the actions of a baby, “the babe leaped in her womb.” Life begins at conception (Luke 2:21; Ps. 51:5), God knows the children and loves them even before they are formed in the womb (Jer. 1:4-5). God’s mind in this issue has never changed. The oldest recorded book in the Bible, the book of Job, will attest to the fact that a child forms at conception rather than a sack of unhuman tissue. In Job 3:3: “Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, there is a man child conceived.” What was conceived at conception? A CHILD was conceived at the beginning!

Do not let propaganda-pushing scientists dehumanize the children of the world. God alone holds the right to take a life (Acts 17:25); God’s wrath awaits those humans who act outside the authority which God bestows on them. When Nadab and Abihu acted outside their authority in their offering to God, the Lord immediately consumed them in fire (Lev. 10:1-2). Christians must stand to warn the wicked or their destructive paths (Mat. 7:13-14; Ez. 3:18-19). If Christians truly love the souls of human beings, they must not remain silent but stand to educate the world in truth (2 Tim. 4:2-5; 2 Tim. 2:15).
